During the meeting, the export of Polish food and the search for new outlets for agri food products were discussed. The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the results of Polish trade in agri food products in recent years confirm the great importance of Polish food in international trade. The export of these products systematically increases its value from year to year.
In 2020, the value of Polish exports of agri food products amounted to EUR 34.3 billion, which was the best result in the history of Polish international trade in this product category.
"For years, the main recipient of Polish agri food products has been Germany," reminded Secretary of State Norbert Kaczmarczyk.
In 2020, the value of agri food exports to the German market reached over EUR 8.6 billion, which meant a 25% share in all foreign food sales
"The balance in the turnover of agri food products has also remained positive for years," stressed Deputy Minister Norbert Kaczmarczyk.
In 2020, it reached the level of EUR 11.6 billion and, compared to 2015 (EUR 7.8 billion), it increased by nearly 50%.
The secretary of state pointed out that many factors contributed to such good results of Polish exports. The most important of them include: competitive prices of Polish food in relation to foreign markets related to lower production costs and its efficiency, the use of modern processing technologies, the use of high quality agricultural raw materials, an ever increasing list of Polish traditional products recognized abroad.
"Thanks to these and other factors, it is possible to continuously increase the level of exports of many Polish goods, including meat, dairy products, fresh and frozen fruit, apple juice, cereals and sweets," said Deputy Minister Norbert Kaczmarczyk.
Over the last 10 years, Polish agri food exports have increased nearly 2.5 times.
As a result, Poland ranks seventh among the largest food exporters in the European Union. The value of the balance in foreign trade in food at the level of over EUR 11.6 billion gives us the third place among ten European Union countries with a positive balance of this exchange (the remaining countries are net food importers).
"The good position of our agri food sector is also evidenced by the growing share of exports of this group of products in total Polish exports, which increased from 11% in 2010 to over 14% in 2020," emphasized the secretary of state.
Over the last dozen or so years, export has become an important factor stabilizing the domestic markets of agricultural products. It is also a very important source of income for the domestic agriculture and food industry.
"In the near term, Poland should maintain its cost and price advantage in the production of most agri food products. I hope that also in the coming years, the export of Polish food will develop at least as dynamically as before," summed up Norbert Kaczmarczyk, Secretary of State. ■
