African swine fever outbreak reported in Bulgaria
The disease has been found in a small farm in the village of Tutrakantsi, some 415 km east of Sofia and 160 km south of the border with Romania.
A total of seven pigs were fattened in the farm, the statement said.
All measures have been taken to eradicate the outbreak and prevent its spreading such as setting up a three-kilometer protection zone and a 10-km observation area around the outbreak, and clinical examinations of the animals, the statement said.
African swine fever has hit neighboring Romania, and on Tuesday Bulgaria has completed the construction of a wire fence on the border between the two countries to prevent the arrival of infected migratory animals. ■
