This achievement, reached through the joint work of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGyP) of the Ministry of Economy of the Nation and the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) involves external sales of poultry and pork and the expansion to export beef with bone, offal and fat while also including the recognition of the equivalence of the control and certification system of Argentina and the Philippines.
This authorization establishes a 15-day period for the official opening of the market and simultaneously allows the Philippine health service teams to begin evaluating the veterinary certificates already proposed by Argentina to begin exports from our country.
The equivalence between the control and certification systems of both countries is a step forward that facilitates the authorization of new Argentine establishments that are interested in sending their meat production to that destination.
This achievement is the result of intense work in negotiations developed throughout this year between the two countries, through coordinated work between the Ministry of Economy, through the Secretariat and Senasa, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Argentine Embassy in Manila.
To achieve these openings, during this year, Argentina received two visits from Philippine delegations that inspected and verified the official Senasa control system for the production of beef, pork and poultry.
In 2023, the Philippines imported meat and by-products worth more than USD 1.75 billion from around the world. In turn, according to the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines, meat imports in the period from January to October increased by 17% compared to the same period in 2023.
Argentina thus manages to establish itself in an important market with growing demand. ■
