Denmark has the highest consumption of organic products in the world

Eight percent of all foods sold in Denmark are organically cultivated, which is a world record and the dairy is the largest organic sector.

The area that was cultivated by organic farms in Denmark in 2014 amounted to approx. 176.000 ha, which means that 7% of Denmark’s total area is organically cultivated.

The dairy sector is the largest organic sector in Denmark. In 2007, the dairies produced 164 million kg organic milk for consumption, 2 million kg organic butter and 3 million kg organic cheese. Organic raw milk today equals about 10% of the total milk production in Denmark.

Denmark was the first country in the world to introduce an organic logo that guarantees control by national authorities.

The Danish organic logo is also given to cafes and restaurants that serve organic meals.
