Fiji lifts restriction on vegetables from New Zealand
These vegetables include bhindi, long bean and tubua. lifted after a field survey report on pests Thrips palmi was conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture Extension and Research team last month.
Khan says this revealed the low level of ‘Thrips palmi' host commodities on tubua and bhindi.
He added that they have taken necessary actions to ensure that interceptions of Thrips palmi at international borders are reduced.
Meanwhile the Thrips palmi'is a regulated pest in New Zealand and considered a high impact pest which, if established, could lead to high levels of economic consequences. ■
