Tickets for this special service are now available for travel from Sept. 15 to 30; the walk-up bike feature is being offered in conjunction with the 2015 UCI Road World Championships.
The enhanced service provides passengers with a way to travel to Virginia’s capital city with their bikes and without the hassles of driving and parking for the championships by allowing bikes to be handed to an Amtrak crew member and hung on a rack in the baggage cars.
The service is being offered on travel from Philadelphia, Baltimore/Penn Station, Wilmington, Del., Washington, D.C., and Alexandria, Va., to Richmond’s Staples Mill Road and Main Street Stations. There is a $25 bike handling fee.
Staffed stations that currently have boxed bike service will continue to offer this service.
