Nordstrom spreads in Colorado and Florida, closes stores in Georgia
The property is being developed and managed by Alberta Development Partners, LLC. Nordstrom Rack is part of a planned redevelopment of Foothills Mall, with updates that will provide a more open air, lifestyle center layout. The new Rack will be visible and accessible from the main retail corridor of College Ave.
When the new store opens, it will be the fifth Rack in Colorado. The company also operates three Nordstrom stores in the state.
The company also plans to open a Nordstrom Rack in Clearwater, Fla. The 38,080-square-foot store is scheduled to open in fall 2015. The property is owned by Sears Holdings Corporation.
The new Rack will move into a standalone two-level space, formerly the location of a Sears Auto Center, at the primary northern entrance to the mall off of Main Street with good visibility from Hwy 19. The store will sit adjacent to Westfield Countryside Mall where anchor tenants include Macy's, Dillard's, JCPenney and Sears along with restaurants such as BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, Bar Louie and P.F. Chang's.
When it opens, the Clearwater Nordstrom Rack will be the company's third location in the greater Tampa Bay area. On October 24 the company opened a second Rack location at Lake Brandon Plaza in Brandon.
However Nordstrom announced plans to close its Mall of Georgia Store in Buford, Georgia. Originally opened in 2000, the store will remain open to serve customers through its last day of business on February 28, 2015.
The closure impacts about 174 non-seasonal employees. "With a number of Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores in the greater Atlanta area, we have let our people here know that if they want to stay with our company, we'll do our best to help them find a role," said Nordstrom. Employees who do not have a role at another store and remain until their last scheduled shift will be provided with a separation plan. ■
