Everything in Serbia will be finished and ready by October 1 at the latest, he told Prva TV.
When asked why TurkStream construction works in Bulgaria were behind schedule and whether the country was dragging its feet on the project at the US's behest, Bajatovic said Bulgaria was under pressure but also had an ambition to be a gas supply hub and get gas from Romania and Greece as well.
The South Stream gas pipeline project fell through due to Bulgaria's position, he recalled.
"We have said in the past that there would be a new version of South Stream - and we can now see that there is TurkStream - and that political interests would be overwhelmed by economic interests. That is what is going to happen," he said.
Discussions are underway about Serbia possibly getting involved in the construction works in Bulgaria with some of its machinery and welders so that the first, 308 km section of the pipeline in Bulgaria can be finished as soon as possible to enable Serbia to connect to the Bulgarian system, which is a must for getting gas from TurkStream, he explained. ■
