The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official told Xinhua that Bangladesh earned a total of 37,750.6 million U.S. dollars from exports during July-May, compared to 33,728.82 million U.S. dollars in the same period of the previous year.

The July-May receipts are more than that Bangladesh earned in the last fiscal year 2017-18 (July 2017-June 2018) when the country shipped goods worth 36.67 billion U.S. dollars, said the official.

With hefty growth in garment exports, he said Bangladesh shipped goods worth 3.81 billion U.S. dollars in May, the 11th month of the current fiscal year 2018-19 (July 2018-June 2019), which was about 14.78 percent higher than the same month a year ago.

The export income exceeded target of 33.35 billion U.S. dollars for the July-May period by 6.64 percent, said the official who preferred to be unnamed.

Bangladesh set its export target in 2018-19 fiscal year at 39 billion U.S. dollars, including 32.69 billion U.S. dollars from ready-made garment products, the EPB data showed.

In the July-May period, according to the official, Bangladesh earned 31.73.62 billion U.S. dollars from garment exports with knitted items such as T-shirts and woven items such as jeans rising 12.82 percent.
