Canada to send five Hornets for air policing in Romania
The Canadian detachment will consist of five CF-188 Hornets, together with approximately 135 soldiers, pilots and technical staff at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Constanta of southeastern Romania, according to a Romanian ministry statement.
During deployment from September to December 2018, the five Hornets will fly and train alongside the Romanian Air Force's air policing aircraft.
According to NATO, the Air Policing is a peacetime mission for "safeguarding the integrity of the NATO Alliance Member's airspace," with member states taking part in it on a rotating basis.
This is the fourth deployment of the Royal Canadian Air Force in Romania, after the ones carried out in 2014, 2016 and 2017. ■
