Fog halts operations at Rio de Janeiro’s domestic airport for 3rd day
At least 21 flights were cancelled and eight others delayed Tuesday morning at the airport in downtown Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Corporation (INFRAERO) said.
The halt in operations at the airport stranded thousands of travelers.
On Sunday, the airport closed for more than eight hours and 77 flights were cancelled, while the fog forced the suspension of more than 40 flights on Monday.
The temporary suspension of operations in Rio affected other airports, such as Congonhas Airport in downtown Sao Paulo, where 14 flights were cancelled.
The dense fog is also affecting operations at Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, where planes are land and taking off using instruments. ■
