Four found illegally in Iran cargo ship, captain arrested

A Captain of an oil-laden Iran cargo ship, which arrived at Chennai Port via Dubai, was arrested after four additional people were found illegally in the vessel, on Sunday.

The ship was allowed to carry only 36 people, but when the authorities inspected the ship soon after it was berthed at the Port, they found 40-four people in addition.

Acting on a complaint from the port authorities, the Harbour Police registered cases against Ship Captain Pawan Kumar and owner Sunil.

Pawan Kumar was later arrested and being questioned as to how four additional people were allowed to board the vessel illegally.

Police said that the four, said to be natives of Cuddalore, Uttar Pradesh and Bengaluru, have boarded the ship in Dubai.
