French submarine is found after disappearing 50 years ago

French Defense Minister Florence Parly on Monday announced the discovery at 2,370 meters depth of Minerve submarine that has been missing for more than 50 years in strange circumstances.

The official tweeted the announcement and described the discovery as a relief and technical feat. It took place about 45 kilometers from Tolon, where the naval base is located, to which it never returned in January 1968, when it fulfilled patrol missions.

Relatives of the missing (52 people were on board the submarine when it sank) had claimed in October an investigation to find its whereabouts.

The search operation included the participation of Seabed Constructor vessel, owned by a US company, which allowed locating the Argentine submarine ARA San Juan in November.
