The arriving passengers were mistakenly allowed through the Schengen area, and were not subject to regular passport checks.

Many passengers reacted with fear to police and immigration officials cordoning off parts of the airport, and complained of not being informed of the reasons behind the action.

The blunder resulted in delays of around one hour to most international flights that were to depart at the time of the incident.
