Moscow to see minus 25 degrees overnight into Sunday

The weather in Moscow will turn very cold by Defender of the Fatherland Day, and 23-28 February will be extremely cold with average daily temperatures 7-12, and in some places 15-18 degrees lower than normal, the Moscow Department of the Emergency Ministry warns.

Temperatures will start dropping overnight into Thursday and will reach minus 18-20 degrees Celsius.

The coldest nights will be early Sunday and Monday, when thermometers will show minus 20-25 degrees Celcius. During the day on 25 and 26 February the high will be minus 13-18 degrees Celsius.

Rescuers are advising people to avoid the outdoors for long periods. Drivers should postpone long journeys and use caution on the roads without speeding.

It is important to remember that in this weather there is always a high risk of hypothermia or chilblain. At the first signs of chilblain, take the person to a warm place, take off their boots, socks and gloves and call a doctor.
