Shipping Corporation of India vessel sinks

An offshore vessel of the Shipping Corporation of India sunk evening, approximately 95 nautical miles west of Mumbai. All the 16 crew members were saved.




Coast Guard's additional director K Natrajan said, "This offshore vessel Ratna had sudden and uncontrollable flooding at around 5 pm. We were alerted and we immediately send Coast Guard ship Achook to the area as she was on a patrol duty nearby.

"But another nearby vessel GS Prachi rescued the 16 members of crew. Ratna sank at 7.50 pm. The crew will be brought to Mumbai."

A Coast Guard spokesperson said, "At present, there is no pollution. We need to monitor whether there is pollution is there due to this."

This vessel was on charter by Oil and Natural Gas Commission and was built in 2011.
