US sends nuclear bombers to UK and South China Sea
Aircraft DRYER91 and DRYER92 took off from the Barksdale air base in Louisiana and landed in the morning at a British airfield, several media reports.
In addition, over the past two days, three more American B-52 bomber with the callsign STRAY81, STRAY82, STRAY83 and one B-52H with the call sign CLIP91 were sent to the UK.
Tensions over the South China Sea erupted after the US military sent nuclear bombers and ships over a patch of water where China claim trillions of dollars worth of oil and gas sit.
The ongoing row between the US and China has centred around disputes about who controls the South China Sea.
The move by US officials to send two B-52H Stratofortress bombers from a base in Guam to the seas has angered Beijing. A Pacific Air Force statement published by the South China Morning Post that the vessels had been “conducting routine training in the vicinity of the South China Sea” before they returned back to base. ■
