Watch: Croatia national football team came home, 550,000 fans take streets

After winning a 2018 FIFA World Cup silver medal, Croatia national football team returned to capital, Zagreb, to be greeted by tens of thousands fans from all parts of the country.

The main ceremony will be held at the city's main square where people are waiting to see Croatian footballers and to celebrate together the biggest achievement in Croatia's football history.

Police said 550,000 fans - more than one quarter of Croatian population - took streets to see their heroes.

Croatian football team landed at Zagreb International Airport at 3:15pm, and 40-50 minutes ride turned into a travel 6 hours long as the team made their way from the airport to the city in an open-top bus.

Fans lined the streets along the route with the footbalers' bus, the National Library with a huge Croatian flag was one of them.

Over 100,000 people are expected on the Ban Jelacic Square taking the chance to express their pride in their team. Thousands of red and white balloons will be released to honor the football heroes as they take to the stage.
