Bulgaria may increase electricity price by 50%

"There are demands for a larger increase in the price of electricity, but the public will not accept a higher price thus hardly anyone would suggest it" said regulator DKEVR chairman Svetla Todorova.

According to her, instead of the possibly 30 - 50% it is just the currently planned 10% which is the viable limit society can agree with.

However, the increase in the price of electricity could possibly reach up to 50%, assuming that the gaps in the system can only be filled with higher prices. "If this increase occurs means that the state has abdicated," said Todorova, stressing again that this can only happen if all the deficits that will be combined, are covered only by the price of electricity.
