Court: Atlanta may proceed with police body cameras

The City of Atlanta, Ga. Law Department said the Fulton County Superior Court has granted the City’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Utility Associates over the City’s contracting procedures for body cameras for the Atlanta Police Department.

The Court’s dismissal will allow the Atlanta Police Department to proceed with plans to purchase body cameras to be used by officers in a trial program.

“Yesterday, the Fulton County Superior Court ruled in favor of the City, dismissing Utility Associates, Inc.’s complaint.

“This win confirms that the Atlanta Police Department can move forward with its critical public safety initiative of equipping officers with body cameras, ensuring their safety and that of our residents,” said City Attorney Cathy Hampton.
