El Niño threatens 80% of Peruvian mango exports

The entrepreneur participated in the mango national congress where he said that the spots produced by fungi would frustrate exports and cause big losses for producers.
"The mango plantations have flowered and have fruits, that's the difference with 1982. This year we have prepared ourselves for the rains. Problems will arise if the rains come in December and are continuous because the mango would be affected by fungi and we wouldn't be able to export it," he said.
In 2014 Peruvian mango exports amounted to $187 million dollars. ■
