Government agencies increasingly interested in body cameras
BidPrime, an Austin based company which provides real-time notification of new government bids and contract opportunities, has released an analysis on the purchases of body-worn cameras. The data from this report indicates that the number of government bids and RFPs have doubled year over year since 2012.
Jim Ward, BidPrime's VP of Business Development, said, "The topic of body-worn cameras has just recently entered the public lexicon in light of recent events. The data compiled by our analysts demonstrate that law enforcement agencies are increasing the quantity of their bids. With the continued focus on this subject matter, there will undoubtedly be further growth in 2015."
States with the most government bids issued for body-worn cameras are Illinois, Ohio, California, Virginia, and Texas.
Illinois and Ohio issued the most government bids for body-worn cameras in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Texas issued the most bids and RFPs. As of 2014, every major metropolitan area in Texas has issued bids, RFPs or RFIs for body-worn cameras.
