Hotel prices in D.C. up 927% thanks to Trump’s inauguration

Prices of hotel rooms in Washington, D.C., are 927% higher than usual for the week of the presidential inauguration.

This is according travel website Trivago, at an average of $2,071 per night for a standard double room.

The usual rate for a room of that type in the city tends to hover around $200 in January, at $215 in 2013, $204 in 2014, $186 in 2015, and $204 in 2016, according to Trivago.

This year, there is also the “Women’s March on Washington” in protest against Trump set for Saturday with more than 200,000 protesters expected.

Airbnb expects to host 10 times more inauguration visitors in the D.C. region than it did in 2013, according to a report it released ahead of the inauguration.

More than 15,100 guests have booked housing between Friday and Sunday, higher than the company’s initial predictions of 10,000 guests. It claims these visitors will generate more than $10 million in economic activity for the D.C. area.

The median price of an Airbnb booking is $129 per night, and top areas for visitors include the neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, Columbia Heights and the H Street Corridor.
