One-day registrations of passenger cars in Austria down 21% in H1

9,239 passenger cars were registered and deregistered within one day between January and June 2016, according to Statistics Austria.

Compared to the same period in 2015, this means a decrease of 21.0% (first half 2015: 11 695).

In the first six months of 2016, the overall registrations of new passenger cars amounted to 171 770 which represents a decline of 6.3%. The share of one-day registrations related to all new car registrations accounted to 5.4% (2015: 7.2%).

Apart from April (+9.3%), decreases were recorded for all months in the first half of 2016: January -19.2%, February -22.5%, March -35.7%, May -30.0% and June -16.3%.

The number of short-term registrations of passenger cars up to seven days decreased by 16.7%, those up to 30 days and 60 days declined by -5.1% and-4.7%, respectively. Short-term registrations up to 90 days (-2.1%) and those up to 120 days (-1.4%) documented decreases as well.
