Portugal: Companies with more 100 workers to justify wages

Companies with more than 100 workers in Portugal are to be required to justify wage discrepancies among workers.

The new rule, part of new legislation to promote equality, will see companies being asked by labour inspectors to justify pay differences for workers performing similar tasks.

In the event of being unable to offer a satisfactory justification, bosses will be required to increase the wages of lower income workers in the space of two years.
