Strong turnover growth in sector hotels and restaurants in the Netherlands
Restaurants, pubs and snack bars performed particularly well. The volume of sales (refreshments and overnight stays) increased. The sector boasted a record growth of 8.8 percent relative to Q3 2015.
Restaurants and pubs achieved the highest turnover growth, by 3.5 and 3.4 percent respectively. In both branches, growth was also higher than in the first two quarters of 2016.
Pubs (also including pubs serving meals and coffee bars) showed an unprecedented turnover growth. Unlike in other branches in the sector hotels and restaurants, the volume of sales is still below the pre-recession level.
Snack bars, tearooms, fast food restaurants, meal delivery services and ice-cream parlours saw 2.7 percent turnover growth in Q3. Fast food chains and providers of meal delivery services in particular performed better than in Q2.
Hotels realised a modest turnover growth of 0.2 percent, which is less than in other parts of the sector and also below the level of the preceding quarters.
Relative to Q3 2015, the sector hotels and restaurants as a whole recorded an 8.8 percent turnover growth. Such a high growth rate has not occurred since Q1 2007.
With more than 13 percent, snack bars had the highest growth rate compared to last year. Snack bars (chips, sandwiches and other snacks) have never achieved such high growth figures.
On average, prices in the sector hotels and restaurants were 2.7 percent above the level of the same period last year. The volume of sales grew by an average of 6 percent. ■
