However, South Korea retained the top spot in terms of flat panel exports to China during the same period, while Taiwan trailed behind as the 2nd biggest supplier, the MOEA cited data as showing.

The data indicated that Taiwan and South Korea, which have a lot of similar industries, have been competing head to head in the high-tech market in China, the MOEA said.

According to the data, Taiwan grasped a 37 percent share in China's IC import market, including sales to Hong Kong, for the first seven months of this year, up from 35.4 percent in 2015, while South Korea's share stood at 24.8 percent in the same period, down from 25.7 percent in 2015.

The MOEA said that the data was evidence that Taiwan, which owns the world's largest contract chip maker -Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and many competitive IC designers and packaging and testing services supplier -firmly maintained the lead over South Korea in the China semiconductor market.

On the other hand, Taiwan's share in China's flat panel imports market fell 31.9 percent in the seven-month period from 37.1 percent recorded in 2012, while South Korea's share have been stable at around 43 percent over recent years, helping it remain the No. 1 foreign supplier in China, the MOEA said.

The ministry said that although 90 percent of Taiwan-made flat screens are sold to China and Hong Kong, its share in that particular market has been on the decline and started to lag behind South Korea since a global financial crisis erupted in 2009. Before 2009, Taiwan was the No. 1 flat panel supplier in China's import market.
