2020 Land Rover Defender is brutal. And beautiful

Edward Green |
Unique architecture makes the 2020 Land Rover Defender the most rugged and robust family of vehicles yet.

The large, robust, optional off-road tires on the Defender are designed to endure a variety of terrains. From the robust interior featuring Durable Rubber Flooring, to the durable exterior with optional Satin Wrap, everything about the Defender has its purpose. Featuring the largest tire family of any Land Rover vehicle, the 32” Overall Diameter tires on the Defender absorb shock, protecting the integrity of the chassis and increasing passenger comfort. The increased sidewall depth also reduces the risk of punctures.

All-Wheel Drive, a two-speed transfer case, Electronic Active Differential and a larger tire family make the Defender our most capable Land Rover vehicle. The dynamic carrying load allows for up to 370 lbs. And the static load of 661 lbs. lets you make more of your adventure. So, if you want to stay the night, the Rooftop Tent will let you do exactly that. You may individually personalize your off-road system preferences through Configurable Terrain Response technology.

Supreme geometry strengthens the vehicle’s all-terrain capability. Its approach angle is 38 degrees. This is coupled with a breakover angle of up to 29 degrees and a departure angle of 40 degrees. As competent on-road as it is off. Enjoy refined comfort with independent front and rear suspension and Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics. The Defender has the ability to wade up to a depth of 35.4 inches, making water crossings possible. The Wade Program in Terrain Response raises the vehicle using Electronic Air Suspension. A 3D Surround Camera with Wade Sensing tells you just how deep the water is.

The exterior of the Defender is without match. Its distinctive silhouette instantly demonstrates the vehicle's character. One look at that reassuringly recognizable silhouette, and you know this is anything but ordinary. Short front and rear overhangs improve its geometry and capability. Alpine Lights: A nod to the past, this feature helps bathe the cabin in light and add to the vehicle’s personality. The Defender cabin walk-through configuration provides complete flexibility. It allows passengers to go between the front and second rows, and also provides additional storage space.
