The Legacy 650 is Embraer's best offer in the large jet category. The aircraft features a stylish and spacious cabin with the range to carry out transatlantic flights: maximum range of 3,840 nautical miles (7,112 kilometres) with eight passengers. In other words: non-stop flight from London to New York, Dubai to London, Sao Paulo to Miami, Singapore to Sydney... You got the picture.
The new Legacy 650 marks the debut of the new Honeywell Primus Elite avionics suite. The highly reliable, light-weight LCD units provide enhanced functions, such as charts and geographical maps with up-linked XM weather overlay. The coupled Vertical Navigation will allow the airplane to follow Flight Management System vertical paths which is particularly beneficial during descents with several altitude and speed constraints, since it reduces crew workload and optimizes fuel consumption.
All of this was done while maintaining the same comfortable and functional interior of three distinct cabin zones and spacious wet galley, as well as the largest in-flight accessible baggage compartment of its class. The new state-of-the-art insulation materials are built-in for improved noise reduction and Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband system for high-speed internet in the air. We must not forget excellent materials so appropriate for the top-end business class.
With an increased maximum landing weight of 44,902 pounds (20,000 kilograms), the new jet provides additional fuel tank capacity, thus contributing to enhanced mission efficiency, in terms of cost and time. The higher "full fuel" payload capacity is equivalent, in weight, to nine passengers at 91 kilograms (200 pounds) each. The Legacy 650 also presents other performance improvements, such as an increased maximum operating speed below 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) to 300 knots, and an increased maximum flap-extended speed, resulting in greater operational advantage for today's busy airspaces. ■
