Belarus interested in importing more fruits from Pakistan

Representatives of Belarus and Pakistan discussed possibilities of stepping up cooperation in trade, the press service of the Belarusian Trade Ministry told BelTA after a Pakistani delegation visited the Ministry.

The press service noted that determining Belarus-Pakistan cooperation avenues was the main purpose of the visit of the Pakistani delegation.

The sides discussed proposals for Belarus to import more sport gear and accessories, which production is concentrated in Punjab Province, as well as fruits, primarily mango, which is one of the staple crops in Pakistan, as well as citrus fruits.

According to Belarusian First Deputy Trade Minister Artur Karpovich, Belarus is interested in getting critical imports. In particular, Pakistan is one of the leading suppliers of rice for Belarus. In 2014 Pakistan accounted for over 30% of the rice Belarus bought. In Q1 2015 the figure exceeded 50%.

As a coordinator of expos and fairs the Trade Ministry invited members of the Pakistani delegation to attend the ongoing furniture design expo as well as the international expos Belagro and Prodexpo, which are scheduled to take place in June and November 2015.

In turn, members of the Pakistani delegation expressed interest in arranging a national expo in Belarus for the sake of presenting Pakistani products before Belarusian consumers.
