Malaysian shipping industry to provide 55,000 jobs by 2020

Mah Siew Keong, the minister in charge of the Malaysia Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), said that the Ship Building Ship Repair (SBSR) industry has been identified as one of the new growth industry under the 11th Malaysian Plan.




The SBSR industry is expected to generate RM6.35 billion (about 1.67 billion U.S. dollars) in Gross National Income (GNI) and provide 55,000 jobs by 2020, he added, Xinhuanet Malaysia Channel reported.

According to a latest MIGHT report, the revenue generated for the past four years by the SBSR industry has remained at the range of RM7 to 8 billion (about 1.84 to 2.10 billion U.S dollars) annually.
