Around £5.2 billion is set to be invested, which would help build 2,000 new flood and coastal defence schemes.

This investment will protect 336,000 properties in England over the next six years, the Chancellor is set to announce.

The government claims the funding will cut national flood risk in England by 11pc by 2027.
