Ukraine approves procedure for moving nuclear fuel across border

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has approved a procedure for moving spent nuclear fuel and radioactive materials across the state border.

The procedures sets requirements and organization basis for moving spent nuclear fuel from Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) and radioactive materials received after treating spent nuclear fuel by companies registered in other states across the state border.

Spent nuclear fuel and radioactive materials are moved under foreign economic agreements signed by operators. The agreements are to meet legislation and international agreements of Ukraine and the international atomic energy agency (IAEA) rules.

Spent nuclear fuel and radioactive materials are moved with permits or conclusions issued by the State Export Control Service.
