Pengrowth Energy Trust: founder and CEO James S. Kinnear to retire

Toronto, ON, Canada - September 14, 2009, Toronto, ON, Canada - Pengrowth Corporation, administrator of Pengrowth Energy Trust, announced that founder, chairman and chief executive officer, James S. Kinnear, will be retiring from day to day operations. Derek Evans has been appointed as new president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Kinnear will continue as a Director of Pengrowth Corporation. Mr. Kinnear graduated from the University of Toronto in 1969 with a B.Sc. degree and received a C.F.A. designation in 1979. In 1982 he founded Pengrowth Management Limited and in 1988 created Pengrowth Energy Trust. Prior to 1982, he worked in the securities sector in Montreal, Toronto and London, England. Mr. Kinnear was awarded the Ernst and Young, Prairies Region Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2001, and the Alberta Venture Businessman of the Year award in 2008.

In recognition of Mr. Kinnear's extraordinary role as Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pengrowth, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce Mr. Kinnear's designation as Chairman Emeritus of Pengrowth Corporation.
