Arable land prices in Bulgaria almost double

The average price of arable land in Bulgaria has increased strongly in five years - to 3,937 euro ($4,849) per hectare in 2016 from 2,112 euro in 2011, Eurostat data shows.

On an annual comparison basis, the average price of arable land in Bulgaria rose 1.2% in 2016, according to Eurostat data released on Wednesday.

At the level of national regions, Bulgaria's Yugozapaden region had the lowest average arable land price of 1,166 euro per hectare last year, down from 1,825 euro in 2015, Eurostat said.

Among EU member states in Southeast Europe, Romania had the lowest price of arable land in 2016, with a hectare costing 1,958 euro on average, down from 2,039 euro in 2015.

The price of arable land in Croatia rose 3% year-on-year to 2,809 euro per hectare in 2016, while in Slovenia the price grew 6.6% to 17,136 euro.
