Brazilian beef exports up 1%, sugarcane processing 5.22%

Brazilian beef exports were up 1% in volume year-on-year in January. The country shipped 97,394 tons of beef abroad, the Brazilian Meat Companies Association (Abrafrigo) reported.

Revenues dropped 13% to $367.4 million. Egypt, the second leading importer of Brazilian beef, reduced its purchases by 14.6% to 17,594 tons. In January 2016, Brazil exported 10,871 tons of beef to Middle East countries.

Sugarcane processing plants in the Brazilian Mid-South milled 599.87 million tons of sugarcane in the 2015/2016 crop until February 1, the Sugarcane Industry Association (Unica) reported. The volume is up 5.22% from the comparable year-ago period.

By the second half of January, 3.93 million tons had been processed in 39 facilities across the Mid-South. Of those, 27.52% were used in sugar manufacturing. The remainder went to ethanol production.

Sugar output stood at 97,030 tons, with ethanol production at 168.05 million liters.
