FAO to help Iran to improve Agriculture Monitoring System
Under the MoU, the parties will cooperate on a project for improving Agriculture Monitoring System through satellite imagery, the Iranian agriculture ministry said in a message.
Abbas Keshavarz, Iran’s deputy agriculture minister said that FAO has agreed to implement a pilot project in Iran to improve the country’s Agriculture Monitoring System.
The pilot project will be implemented in Zanjan, Mazandaran and Kerman provinces which have different climatic conditions, he added.
The date of this system should be up to date, predictable and analytical, he said, adding that it will report all events including climatic fluctuations, weather changes and so on.
Over 52 percent of Iran’s agricultural lands are under wheat farming. Iran’s wheat production reached 14 million tons during the current year.
The Islamic Republic exported 5.8 million tons of agricultural products during the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017), 21.7 percent more year-on-year. ■
