Fruit production in Austria above ten years average

256,900 tons of dessert fruits were produced in 2015 (-6% to 2014), according to Statistics Austria.

Compared to the ten years average this means an increase of 5%. Despite the changing weather conditions with dryness in spring, a rainy June and a hot and dry summer, pome fruit reached a quantity of 226,100 tons (-6% to 2014).

The production of stone fruit reached 13,400 tons – by 5% less than in the previous year and slightly over the ten years average (+2%).

The harvest of berries with 16,700 tons remained below the previous years' level (-7%) as well as under the ten years average (-4%).

Winter apples, the main Austrian fruit species, brought a harvest of 213,700 tons (-6% to 2014). Apricots achieved a production of 7,000 tons (+3% to 2014), while strawberries reached an amount of 13,400 tons (-8% to 2014).
