The Ministry of Commerce, in cooperation with the Rice Federation (MRF), is seeking to penetrate the markets of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, European and African countries.

Moreover, the commerce authorities have also been cooperating with China to raise the export quota of rice.

Meanwhile, Myanmar is trying to extend the period as demanded in a memorandum of understanding reached during the previous government for exporting 300,000 tons of rice to Indonesia.

According to statistics, Myanmar's total rice export value reached 400,000 U.S. dollars during the first four months of 2016-2017 fiscal year. Of the rice export, 80 percent went to China, mostly through border trade.
