"Today, one can buy quality onions from farmers in the southern regions at UAH 2.5 [US$0.09] per kilogram.

The price of the vegetable in retail is a third higher," the Ukrainian TSN TV news service said on July 6.

At the same time, the average wholesale prices of onions in Ukraine this season are exactly 66.7% down from those reported last year, that is, about UAH 7.5 (US$0.28).

"Now, Ukrainian onions are cheaper than those in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan," the publication said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, prices of Ukrainian strawberries in June fell significantly, to UAH 35 (US$1.29) per kilogram on average, although the price was one and a half to two times that level in early June.
