The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) carries out disease control and containment measures and epidemiological investigation at the facility. In order to eliminate the focus of the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease, 58 pigs will be eliminated in the shed.
A quarantine zone has been established around the ASF-affected warehouse.
In the sheds located in this area, PVD will intensify checks on the health status of pigs and compliance with biosecurity requirements.
It is forbidden to move pigs from farm to farm, as well as to take pigs and pork outside of this area, for pig farms located in the quarantine zone.
This year, this is already the seventh ASF outbreak in domestic pigs. ÐСМ has been detected in domestic pig sheds in Gulbene, Madona and KrÄslava counties.
P VD calls on the owners of domestic pigs to strictly observe biosecurity in the shed: do not let the pigs out and do not allow them to come into contact with wild animals, do not give the pigs green fodder, vegetables and fruits from the backyard garden, as well as food leftovers, and be careful with the use of bedding shavings, straw, hay.
Before going to the barn, you must change your clothes and shoes, as well as disinfect your shoes. Work tools, wheelbarrows, buckets and other equipment used in the barn must not be used outside.
If the pigs look unhealthy, do not treat yourself, but call a veterinarian immediately!
Biosecurity must be observed in every farm in Latvia where domestic pigs are kept, regardless of their number, but AlÅ«ksne, AugÅ¡daugava, Balvu, CÄ“su, Dienvikkurzeme, Dobele, Gulbene, JÄ“kabpils, KrÄslavas, KuldÄ«ga, Limbažu, Ludza, Madona, Ogres should be especially careful at the moment, Preiļi, RÄ“zekne, Sigulda, Smiltene, Tukum, Valmiera, Varakļani and Ventspils counties for domestic pig keepers, as the highest number of cases of wild boar infection has been found in these areas. ■
