Peru establishes requirements for importing raspberry roots and plants from U.S.

According to the resolution, prior to certification and shipment in the country of origin, the importer or interested party must obtain a phytosanitary import permit for the shipment of raspberry roots, which is issued by the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa).
The shipment must also be accompanied by an official phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin stating that the material comes from plants inspected by the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of the country of origin during the period of active growth of the crop and analysis corroborating that they are free of pests.
The plant material will be in a dormant state without leaves, without visible signs of growth and without soil, and must have undergone a pre-shipment disinfection treatment. In addition, they must be packaged in new packaging that is being used for the first time.
The importer must be registered, have its own production sites, and technical crew that can manage quarantine material.
The resolution establishes a phytosanitary inspection at the point of entry into the country and a post-entry quarantine process that lasts 18 months.
The shipments of in vitro raspberry plants must have the phytosanitary import permit issued by Senasa, which must be obtained by the imported or interested party, prior to certification and shipment in the country of origin.
In addition, the shipment must be accompanied by an official phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin.
This certificate must have an additional statement that states that the material comes from mother plants that were inspected by the NPPO of the country of origin during the crop's period of active growth, and that -after being analyzed in a lab- they are free of pests.
The in vitro material will come in transparent, closed containers, in an aseptic environment, labeled with the identity and origin of the product. The importer must be registered, have its own production sites, and technical crew that can manage quarantine material.
According to the norm, a phytosanitary inspection will be carried out at the point of entry into the country and the material will be subjected to a 12-month post-entry quarantine process. ■
