Portugal approves ban on plastic for bread, fruit, vegetables

A draft law by the Green Party to ban ultra-lightweight plastic bags and polystyrene trays used to package bread, fruit and vegetables from June 2020 has been approved.

The diploma will be handed over to the 11th parliamentary committee to further discussion before final approval.

The draft law stipulates the need to find an alternative to ultra-lightweight plastic bags and polystyrene trays at sales points of bread, fruit and vegetables and that these stores will be subject to fines if they violate the law.
