The data is part of the 7th Brazilian Grain Crop Survey by the National Supply Company (Conab).
here was a decline of 0.6% over the sixth survey, which called for a crop of 210.3 million tons. Even so, the crop will be a record. According to Conab, the slightly decline in the forecast was due to climate adversities in the final stages of the crops.
This Thursday, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) also released a forecast for the grains crop. According to the institute, 210 million tons will be produced, a 0.2% increase over 2015.
The difference between the data released by the IBGE and Conab lies in the periods surveyed. The institute surveys the crops from January to December, while Conab based its research in the crop year, which goes from August to July of the next year. ■
