UK egg production improved 2.8%

7.4 million cases of eggs were packed in UK egg packing stations during the first quarter of 2017.

This represents 2.8% increase on the first quarter in 2016 and a 2.2% increase on quarter four 2016.

The average UK farm-gate egg price through the first quarter of 2017 was 70.9 pence per dozen, this represents a 0.3% increase on quarter four of 2016, although it represents a 2.4% decrease on the same quarter in 2016.

The production of egg products during the first quarter of 2017 totalled 22.8 thousand tonnes, a 9.1% decrease on the previous quarter and a 0.7% decrease on the first quarter 2016.
