Wisconsin strawberry production 2015 lowest in decade

Strawberry production in Wisconsin in 2015 was estimated at 3.40 million pounds.

This is down 11 percent from the year earlier, and was the lowest production in over a decade, according to USDA figures.

Harvested acres declined three percent from 630 to 610, and yield per acre at 5,500 pounds was down eight percent in 2015 compared to 6,000 the year before.

The average price received was up $5 from last year at $170 per hundred pounds, with the total crop value estimated at $5.78 million, down 8 percent from the previous year.
