British Airways: This is battle for survival

British Airways chief executive Alex Cruz warned staff today to expect job cuts perhaps for a short period, perhaps for longer term" as the airline grapples with coronavirus crisis, according to an internal message seen by the Financial Times.

In the message send out at just before lunchtime today and titled "The Survival of British Airways", Cruz said BA is suspending routes and parking aircraft at an unprecedented rate. "Please don't underestimate the seriousness of this for our company," he said, according to the FT.

The newspaper said a spokeswoman for BA, which is owned by International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, declined to comment on the number of roles being cut.
