Google's Curie cable completed, links US to Chile

Google has completed the 10,000 kilometre undersea cable linking the coast of California and Chile through the port of Valparaiso.

The Curie subsea cable system runs from the Equinix LA4 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in El Segundo, California, to Las Torpederas beach in Valparaiso.

It is also the first to land in Chile in almost 20 years, and it will allow the development of a higher performance infrastructure according to Chile-based telecom regulator Subtel.

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, was present at the landing of Curie cable.
