J Murphy & Sons acquire UK power business of collapsed Carillion

Infrastructure firm J Murphy & Sons acquired the UK power business of collapsed services firm Carillion for an undisclosed sum.

Murphy will take over Carillion's electricity overhead lines work with electricity and gas infrastructure company National Grid.

Murphy will now be able to work with the FTSE 100-listed utility infrastructure giant in delivering its planned replacement and refurbishment schemes on the National Grid's 33 kilovolts to 400 kilovolts transmission network in England and Wales.

Murphy will also become the new joint venture partner with Eltel for the overhead line and T-Pylon frameworks.

As part of the deal, Carillon employees will join Murphy.
