Kansai Airport world's best in baggage handling
Skytrax, which publishes annual rankings of about 550 airports in 112 nations and regions in 20 categories based on more than 13 million reviews, also ranked Kansai International Airport first for terminals dedicated to low-cost carriers.
According to operator New Kansai International Airport Co., the airport in Osaka Prefecture has lost zero baggage since it opened in 1994.
The company also noted the short time it takes for passengers to receive their luggage after they disembark, and the attention to detail, such as placing suitcases on baggage carousels so that the handles face the passengers.
Kansai International Airport placed 12th in the overall rankings of airports, up two places from last year.
The Japanese airport ranked highest overall was Tokyo's Haneda Airport in fifth place, followed by Chubu Airport, or Chubu Centrair International Airport, in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, in seventh place. Singapore Changi Airport ranked first. ■
